"I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to throw my medication out the window. Over and over, I've had this impulse. I think this is
perfectly normal. Psychiatric medication (and medication in general) is not easy to stay on. The side effects are gross. They can make you feel horrible in an attempt to make you feel well. It's an exercise in irony.
"But the thing is, throwing your medication out the window will not help. It will make things worse — I promise. If you're in a bad place, the last thing you need is the horrific withdrawal of stopping your medication abruptly. That will not make your situation
better.
"To give yourself some encouragement when you feel this way, read this.
"And if you decide that you absolutely want off of medication, work with your doctor to design a very, very long taper.
"Your treatment is within your control. But don't use that control to sabotage yourself."
