Had a Suicidal Crisis? A Survey Worth Supporting
I've had a
suicidal crisis that ended in the hospital. Many people with bipolar disorder have. In fact, up to 50% of those with bipolar disorder will attempt suicide and, of course, many more will be acutely suicidal. If this is you, listen up.
I am currently supporting a survey that aims to look into the experiences of those with bipolar disorder who have been hospitalized for a suicidal crisis. Please consider taking this survey. Learn more here.
Latest Articles You May Have Missed
It's been a while since my last newsletter. Here are a few things you might have missed in the
meantime:- Cranial Electrostimulation Therapy in Depression: Evidence, or Lack Thereof, in the Last Decade -- This HuffPo Piece focuses on devices like those from Fisher Wallace and Alpha-Stim that claim to use alternating current electricity to treat various mental
illnesses, like depression, at home..

Disorder Has Changed Me for Life -- Most people with a serious mental illness are changed by it, usually forever. This article talks about how I've been changed and it's actually not all bad..
- Bipolar Disorder and Mood Self-Monitoring -- Mood self-monitoring isn't the same as mood tracking. Mood self-monitoring is an internal process and one I do every second of every day. It's exhausting.
- If a Person with Mental Illness Won't Accept His
Illness or Help -- I get asked all the time what to do when a person with a mental illness denies his or her illness and, of course, any help for it. I attempt to explain how one might deal with this difficult situation here.
- What Bipolar Mixed Moods Really Feel Like -- While I have written about the clinical definition of mixed moods, rarely have I written about what they really feel like. Here I try to explain my experience with them. This piece includes a video.
- Turmeric – Possible New, Inexpensive, Depression and Anxiety Treatment -- Many people are looking for non-pharmacological treatments. Turmeric may be one to add to your standard treatments.

Lost Marbles Book
"This is the book that medical students should read, not the DSM. This is the real thing -- powerfully, bravely stated. This is the solution to the broken leg problem (broken legs are obvious, broken brains -- even though they, too, can be healed -- are not). Tracy helps readers understand some of the furious battle that is going on inside the minds of people
with severe bipolar and depression, mostly invisible yet nearly all-consuming. She is a one-woman stigma-busting machine. Please buy her book -- buy several and spread them around!"
